You may have already started him on a casein and gluten
free diet. Adding certain vitamins known to help stimulate mental faculties can help reduce autistic symptoms. You would probably be aware that in
general, a deficiency in specific vitamins can bring about a body or brain malfunction. Scientific studies show that out of all types of vitamins, B6 is
probably the most useful. Since 1965, there have been 18 major studies on the uses of vitamin B6 to fight autism. In 8 of those studies, children with
abnormalities in their urine, after taking B6 and magnesium, had normal urine. Also, B6 and other B vitamins, have been shown to help autistic
children with better mental focus and more social awareness. It may sound a little unbelievable but it is reported that some children, after taking
vitamins and supplements, even spoke for the first time. Hence, if you have a child who is experiencing some speech delay, then this news can be
pretty hopeful. However, if you want to give your autistic child vitamin B6, be sure to also include magnesium supplements. This is because vitamin
B6 causes a magnesium deficiency in the body. Vitamin C is another vitamin for your consideration to give to your autistic child. In fact, studies show
that a lack of Vitamin C can result in confusion and disorientation, for just about anyone. Although there have been relatively few studies on how
vitamin C has an effect on autistic symptoms, the few that there have been have been successful. Most of the children tested showed similar result
conclusions to the B6. After a period of consuming Vitamin C supplements, these children started showing fewer autistic signs. There are also a
number of other herbs, vitamins and supplements that you can include. These include folic acid, St. John's wort and Ginko Biloba. While no single
item has a major positive effect on its own, studies do show that several vitamins taken together can produce great results. Ask the paedrician of your
child about adding vitamins to his diet. Find out which particular combination would be best for your child. In addition, you may want to make a note to
monitor your child's progress just to ensure that he did benefit from these vitamins after taking them. It is also important that you let the teachers in
school or any child care involved know about the special diet that your child is on. Ask for help so that everyone can chip in to see if there is any
improvement in your autistic child.

How to Choose a Good Multivitamin

How to Choose a Good Multivitamin There are a lot of choices out there and looks can be deceiving. Some vitamins contain large quantities of the
cheaper nutrients and none or almost none of the costly ones. Unfortunately your body needs those costly nutrients just as much as the other ones.
Look for all-natural ingredients without added chemicals. Since heat destroys nutrients you should find supplements that are processed with low or no
heat. Look for a manufacturer who does extensive research and …this is important…publishes its clinical studies. A company that has been in
business for a number of years should have a proven track record of integrity. There are several other good indicators of the quality of a multivitamin/
multimineral supplement. Does it contain all 8 B vitamins? These are Thiamin, Riboflavin, Niacin, Vitamin B6, Folate (Folic Acid), Vitamin B12, Biotin,
and Pantothenic Acid. Biotin and Folate are expensive nutrients. Many supplements shortchange the consumer on these. Your multi should contain
400 mcg of Folate, which is essential for prevention of birth defects. Calcium is another good indicator. It is a bulky nutrient and difficult to include in
a one or two tablet multi serving. Yours should have at least 450 mg which is 45% of suggested daily value. You may want to add a calcium
supplement if you don’t consume enough dairy to reach the 1000 mg suggested value. A vitamin that meets these criteria will cost more than
drugstore vitamins but if you want better health it is the only choice to make.

A Guide To Vitamins For Children

Compared to adults, children should be taught healthy food consumption habits which will help them make the right choices, this is certainly a part of
their education which should not be overlooked. Often times we find parents who don't exactly know what the right food choices are because they
haven't been properly taught or just don't keep a healthy diet which would provide the right vitamins our children's bodies need. The fact is that without
proper guidance children avoid food which are rich in vitamins and minerals needed to develop healthy bodies, vital minerals and vitamins can be
found in dairy products, fruits, vegetables and lean meat. Through a child's eye food is all about candies, ice cream, hot dogs, cookies,"fries floating in
Ketchup", soda, etc. So we need to realize that as adults we need to start acting properly by setting an example and teaching them to eat food that will
benefit their bodies and health. Children who are left alone to decide what kind of food they want to eat end up suffering from vitamin and mineral
deficiencies. These chemicals are supplied to their bodies through eating, as they are not produced by our bodies naturally. Among the most
important vitamins and minerals every child needs to develop into healthy adults we have: Calcium is a very important mineral which should be
provided to children through milk based products such as yogurt, ice cream, cheese and obviously milk. Calcium helps them build strong bones and
can be also supplied through cereals, vitamins and calcium-fortified juices but beware that these last products do not guarantee a nutritional adequate
diet. Nowadays, we can find all sorts of calcium-enriched products such as spreads-margarine, snacks and even rice. Iron is another important
mineral which is needed to help prevent diseases such as anemia. Babies are the ones usually the ones who are most at risk of suffering from iron
deficiencies but make sure to talk to your doctor about the amounts of iron needed for an infant to develop properly. Too much iron in the blood can
cause serious diseases such as hemochromatosis, that's why consulting with a pediatrician about iron-enriched vitamins can prevent complications.
An extremely important vitamin every child's body needs is vitamin D. Just like calcium, vitamin D helps them build strong bones and teeth. In babies,
a vitamin D deficiency can trigger diseases such as Rickets which causes bone deformity which manifests itself by weakening or softening the skull,
wrists, ribs and ankles. Other equally important vitamins and minerals include vitamin A, C, D, B-12, thiamine, riboflavin, fluoride and niacin.
Remember to always consult with your child's doctor before you give them any supplement.

How To Find Good and Effective Vitamin Supplements

With many people rushing a hectic lifestyle and do have the luxury of time for a healthy and paced diet, they often turned to processed foods that fails
to ensure the daily ratio of vitamins necessary for keeping healthy. Given the highly polluted environment we live in and all the unhealthy food we
consume, a good and effective vitamin supplement can greatly improve our state of health. In real actual fact, there has been a lot of articles about
the potential dangers of using excessive quantities of synthetic man-made vitamins. Professionals have more or less conflicting views and opinions
concerning the use of synthetic man-made vitamin supplements in large doses and the effects this could have on your health. Some of them believe
that such vitamin supplements may do more harm than good. Are there report available about vitamins? English-written newspaper articles also state
the positive effects of natural vitamin supplement intakes versus synthetic vitamins. While this may be a propaganda directed by drug manufacturers,
there's definitely no doubt that the best root for vitamin and mineral supplements is quality, and this is something all nutritionists reconcile by. Unlike
man-made synthetic vitamins, natural supplements have only natural ingredients. Difference between synthetic vs natural supplements Your body
absorbs natural health supplements that come from naturally occurring food much more effectively than it absorbs synthetic vitamins. Fake vitamins
may have a chemical structure that tries to trick the body into taking them as natural food. Are there any practices? There's also the practice of taking
the pill during your meal to increase the chances of being absorbed properly. However, it would be much better if you could take your daily vitamin
ratio from a natural supplement and not overload your body by giving it synthetic and hard to absorb vitamins. Are they any natural supplement
products available? There are numerous products on the market today stating that they provide 100% natural. You can also discover food packages
that claim they act as a natural supplement. The natural nutrients and vitamins that are packed in these products are much easier for your body to
absorb, because they come as naturally occurring food. There are some food that are really good and they have all the nutrients your body needs,
such as anti-oxidants, enzymes and whole molecular cells. These components act together to respond to your body's requests for vitamins. However,
you cannot realize for sure how efficient they are for your particular state of health and whether they provide you with everything you need unless you
ask a nutritionist. Are these vitamin supplements efficient? People have to get used to a healthy diet is always a good start to keep your body healthy.
Food packages acting as a natural health food can provide you with a healthy diet, especially if you choose the brand wisely. However, you might have
some vitamin deficiencies which cannot be corrected just by following a good diet. However, a nutritionist can examine your current state of health
and run the necessary test on you in order to be able to provide a diagnosis and recommend you a quality supplement. He/she will be able to tell you if
the supplement is enough or you need additional treatment. Besides knowing what are various types of consuming natural health supplements, and
alongside this little information may be enough for you to choose your supplements more carefully and to consume moderately. Before you are going
to consume any type of vitamin health food, you need to first consult your doctor. For many people out there that tend to forget the quality of popping
these pills, without realizing the harmful effects of over-consumption of these supplements, level while various kinds of supplements can treat chronic
diseases. By simply applying an effective tips as being highlighted here, together with an thorough understanding of vitamin supplements is crucial so
that you enjoy your life once again.

Monthly Multivitamins For Womens

Vitamins have many task to deal with in women. If you have

other health problems you should seek
doctors advise before taking a multivitamin. Multivitamins can be misleading . You may find that you

feel no better than you did before you started
taking the multivitamin. If you are interested in taking multivitamins, read the labels carefully. The

more familiar you become with these vitamins the
better approach you have on your life. Women need to relax and share the load they carry from day to

day. Let your spouse know what you are
experiencing so he can provide you with guidance if you feel your emotions is slowing you down. Don't be

afraid to open up to your children or doctor
about your feelings. Women do have emotional and stressful lives.

Top Ten Natural Sources of Important Vitamins and Minerals

Vitamins are very easy to find if you know where to look. Meats, grains, fruits and vegetables are all excellent natural sources of vitamins. As an
added bonus, your body will typically absorb the vitamins found in foods more easily than those found in supplements. This article will discuss the top
ten natural foods that contain important vitamins that your body needs. Oranges Oranges are not only jam packed with vitamin C, but they also
contain potassium, vitamin B6 and vitamin B12. Vitamin C is commonly know to help prevent and cure the common cold and helps aid in iron
absorption but has also been tied to the prevention of heart disease. Vitamin B6 is a powerful tool that aids your metabolism as well as other vital
bodily functions. Salmon Salmon and other oily fish such as trout, orange roughy or sardines are all rich in vitamin A, D and two important B vitamins.
Vitamin A is essential for your immune and reproduction systems. Carrots Carrots are heavy on the Vitamin A and also have a good amount of
calcium and vitamin C. However, it's important not to overcook them or all of the healthy vitamins and minerals will be cooked right out. Tossing a
fresh carrot into your lunch bag is a great way to keep all those great vitamins right where they should be - in the carrot. Spinach Folic Acid or B9 is
found abundantly in spinach. Folic acid is vital to pregnant women because it can help reduce the risk of birth defects in newborns. Spinach also has
some other important nutrients such as vitamin A, C and E and should be eaten raw to get the most benefit from the nutrients it contains. Blueberries
Blueberries are perhaps best known for their effects on memory. Studies have shown that the vitamin B compounds in blueberries help improve
memory and reduce the risk of Alzheimer's and dementia. They are also a great source for vitamin C. Almonds Almonds are chock full of calcium and
vitamin E. Vitamin E is thought to help prevent certain cancers and cardiovascular diseases. It's also a great source of calcium which helps build
strong bones. Broccoli Vitamin K, A and C, calcium and fiber are all very abundant in broccoli and a good dose of broccoli once a week will help
prevent cancer as well as help build strong bones. Cauliflower Cauliflower is hands down the best source for vitamin K, which is vital to your body's
ability to make your blood clot. It is also a good source of vitamin C, fiber and some great nutrients that are believed to help prevent certain cancers
like breast and prostate cancer. Beans Beans are a great source of folate which is great for cell formation. Iron is also found in beans which helps
keep your energy up. Other important substances in beans can help prevent cancer, reduce the risk of diabetes, aid your circulatory system and help
control your weight. Apples An apple a day may just keep the doctor away. Apples are a great source of vitamin C which will help boost your immune
system. However, studies have shown that apples also contain other vital properties that help boost your immune system in ways that vitamin C

Can Vitamins Increase Your Health and Vitality?

If you do not have the foundations of good health, like a good diet, regular exercise, keeping up your spiritual and emotional health and reducing your
toxic load, no supplements are going to help you very much. But if you do have a good healthy foundation, do you still need vitamin, mineral and
herbal supplements? Well, only you can answer that question for yourself, however, many people have a hard time these days finding and eating only
truly superior, nutrient-dense foods. Even back in the 1930's it was recognized that our soils and consequently our foods were depleted of essential
minerals. This is even more of a problem today, and even amongst many organic farmers, not all have corrected this problem with their soil. In
addition to the mineral deficiency, since 1980 there has been a 50% reduction in antioxidants in our foods, including vitamin B, C, and E complexes,
and unless acquired fresh from the farm or from your own organic garden, and consumed shortly within picking, your food will be lacking in these
vitamins and other antioxidants. At the same time, our world is now filled with chemicals that bombard us on all sides. This increases our body's need
for nutrients, especially for antioxidants like the B, C, and E vitamin complexes, DHLA and green tea. However, do most vitamins and mineral
supplements provide your body what it is lacking? Americans now spend over $17 billion a year on various health supplements, including vitamins,
minerals, and herbs. However, chronic disease rates have either remained the same, or actually increased! There are many reasons for this, but in
any case it seems abundantly clear that the supplements most people consume are not helping in any significant way. We all hear about the great
health effects of various nutrients, so why is this? Well, first of all, studies show that most vitamins and supplements contain toxic poisons. Yes, that's
right, a landmark research study by the University of California and the American Nutraceutical Association showed that 97.5% of so-called nutritional
supplements and vitamins are labeled with incorrect information and filled with toxic ingredients! (JANA, Dec. 1999). Check your vitamin labels! Do
they list magnesium stearate or stearic acid as ingredients? Natural flavors? Sodium benzoate? Gelatin? Stearates have been shown to suppress
the immune system. Natural flavors is the new term used for MSG, or monosodium-glutamate, a known brain neurotoxin. Sodium benzoate is
carcinogenic. Gelatin comes from animal hooves and other animal parts. Therefore, gelatin often contains toxic preservatives, plus hormones and
antibiotics that have been given to the animal. Stearates and gelatin are used in many capsules and tablets; natural flavors in lots of protein drinks,
and sodium benzoate as a preservative in many liquid supplements. Another problem is that most vitamins on the market today are synthetic,
regardless of whether you buy them in a drug store, a big box store or even a health food store. Now supplement companies that make millions of
dollars every year on them may want you to believe otherwise, but synthetic vitamins do not provide all the co-factors or the nutrients necessary for
your body to fully utilize that supplement. In fact, since the co-factors are missing, the body often has to take them from somewhere else in order to
make the synthetic vitamin work. But this can create serious shortages of these co-factors, and may cause further problems. Do your body a favor
and throw out all your synthetic vitamins today! Look for organic whole food supplements and superfoods, like camu-camu berries for vitamin C,
nutritional yeast and B vitamins naturally grown on probiotics for B complex, greens for a variety of vitamins & minerals, living source coral calcium for
calcium, magnesium and trace minerals, cod liver oil for natural vitamins A and D and essential fatty acids and more. Potent whole food vitamins and
supplements can make a difference in your health and vitality.

A Guide To Vitamins For Adults

It is widely understood that vitamins are chemical substances which help us turn food into body energy also known as Adenosine Triphosphate (ATP)
and help regulate cellular functions. They also help us produce healthy heart tissues, strong bones, red blood cells, etc. We can classify vitamins into
water soluble which as the name states easily dissolve in water and are transported all around our body through our blood stream; and there are
vitamins said to be fat soluble which are also carried through the blood stream and stored in fat deposits in our body, these don't need to be
replenished as often as water based vitamins. These two kinds of vitamins are normally absorbed through our intestinal tract. Examples of fat-based
vitamins and their recommended daily intake are: * Vitamin E which is a antioxidant, and the recommended daily consumption is 22 IUs or 15mg.
* Vitamin K which is normally processes in the intestines, the recommended daily consumption is 120 micro-grams. * Vitamin D which regulates
phosphorous and calcium levels in the blood, the recommended intake is 5-10 micro-grams. * Vitamin A which improves vision and bone growth,
the recommended intake is 900 micro-grams. Water based vitamins needed by every adult and their recommended daily intake are: * Vitamin B1,
1.2 milligrams * Vitamin B2, 1.3 milligrams * B3, 16 milligrams * B5, 5 milligrams * B6, 1.5 milligrams * B7, 30 micro-grams * B9, 900
micro-grams * B12, 400 micro-grams All B vitamins play important roles in cell metabolism, deficiencies can cause diseases such as memory loss,
anemia, birth defects, neurological disorders, acne, weakness, beriberi, insomnia, heart failure, etc. One of the major reasons why so many people
have persistent health problems is due to vitamin and mineral deficiencies. Most of the time they lack necessary chemicals and nutrients such as
minerals, vitamins, enzymes, antioxidants which are undoubtedly necessary for good health. In many cases, these chemical compounds are known to
prevent heart tissue failure, Alzheimer, cancer and other conditions that show up as one ages. All the necessary nutrients can be found in
multivitamins. Everyone needs these chemical compounds and nutrients which help us regenerate damaged and old cells in our immune system and
all around our body. Rebuilding these cells is critical to help us get through flu, colds and other diseases caused by toxic compounds we may be
exposed to on a daily basis. Many people know that daily vitamin consumption promotes good health but the fact is that everything taken in excess
can damage our body and cause severe medical conditions.

The Benefits of Multi Vitamin Supplements

The majority of people do not eat a sufficiently balanced diet to provide them with all of the vitamins that they require and this has led to a boom in the multi vitamin supplement industry. Multi vitamin supplements are available in a number of different forms, including tablets, gel capsules and even liquids. Of course the most obvious benefit to taking multi vitamin supplements is convenience. It is far easier for a person to take one dose of a multi vitamin supplement that contains all of the necessary vitamins compared to taking each one individually. This is especially the case for children as it can be difficult for them to take a large number of vitamin supplements but one dose of a multi vitamin supplement is far easier. Of course, a liquid multi vitamin supplement is the most suitable form for children but it is also beneficiate anyone who has difficulty taking supplements in traditional tablet form.

The increase in the availability of multi vitamin supplements has led to a great variety in the brands and also the actual content of the multi vitamin supplements. The names of some of the nutrients in these multi vitamin supplements can be a little bewildering and many people simply do not know which ones they require. To make the decision simpler there are now a number of multi vitamin supplements created for specific people. For example, there are multi vitamin supplements that are designed for children. These multi vitamin supplements contain the specific nutrients that children need for them to grow and develop properly. Pregnant women have unique nutrient requirements to ensure that their baby receives the necessary nutrients and there are multi vitamin supplements prepared for pregnant women. As we get older we also have different nutrient requirements and multi vitamin supplements for the elderly are a popular product.

It is important to consider the contents of any multi vitamin supplement before consuming too many. There are some vitamins that can be toxic if too much is absorbed and this can occur more easily with multi vitamin supplements as some of the content may be overlooked. The labelling of the actual percentage of the recommended daily allowance for each vitamin in a multi vitamin supplement should be clearly labelled and must be assessed before a person takes them. Always seek professional medical advice before taking any multi vitamin supplement if thereis any doubt as to the benefits of the contents.

A Guide to the E Vitamin

The e vitamin is extremely important for a variety of functions in the body. A healthy heart needs plenty of the e vitamin as it has been shown to actually prevent heart disease. The e vitamin can also help contain any existing heart disease and stop it from getting worse.

E vitamin is also vital in protecting the cell membranes from the harmful free radicals that are present in the body. Without e vitamin, amongst others, the cell membranes would be damaged and this could lead to serious health problems, including cancer. The reason that the e vitamin is so effective against free radicals is that it is fat soluble so it can be absorbed into the cell membranes. The e vitamin is therefore essential for the immune system.

The recommended daily amount of the e vitamin that a person requires depends on their body weight. This is connected to the fact that the more fat a diet contains then the more of the e vitamin that is needed. However, the only foods that really contain any reasonable amount of the e vitamin are vegetable oils, seeds, wheat germ, and nuts. It is for this reason that most people should take some form of e vitamin supplement.

A deficiency of the e vitamin does not affect a person immediately. In fact, it can take months for the effects of insufficient e vitamin to be detected. After years of e vitamin deficiency there may e some detectable damage to the nerves of the spinal cord or retina of the eye but this is very rare. Most people obtain enough e vitamin from a normal diet but it is essential that the food that a person eats contains a little fat to help with the absorption of the e vitamin.

There are a few medical conditions that may lead to a deficiency of the e vitamin and may require the person to take e vitamin supplements. Cystic fibrosis causes a person to be unable to digest fats well which leads to less of the e vitamin being absorbed. Crohn’s disease causes to lower absorption rates of the e vitamin and a supplement may be necessary. Some forms of liver disease can also lead to problems absorbing the e vitamin, especially through the intestine. Of course, as fat is required to help absorb sufficient amounts of the e vitamin, anyone on an extremely low-fat diet will need to discuss their options for increasing the amount of e vitamin that their body needs.

A Guide to the D Vitamin

The D vitamin is the only vitamin that is not obtained from foods that are consumed. Instead, the D vitamin is actually obtained by sunlight on the skin. There has been a lot of media coverage about the dangers of getting too much sun but it is essential that the skin is exposed to sunlight to obtain the recommended daily allowance of the D vitamin. In reality, the amount of time that a person has to spend in the sun to receive a sufficient dose of the D vitamin is extremely small and just a few minutes a day will be sufficient and not have any adverse effects from the amount of ultra-violet light received.

The most important function of the D vitamin is to help control how much calcium is absorbed from food. The majority of the calcium is used to build strong teeth and bones but it is also needed to send messages along the nerves and to help muscles, such as the heart muscles, to contract. It is the D vitamin that ensures that there is always sufficient calcium in the blood to perform these tasks. Other functions that require the D vitamin relate to the immune system and it is believed that it is also a contributing factor in reducing the risk of contracting cancer and, in particular, colon cancer.

The variant of the D vitamin that is formed under the skin is known as vitamin D3, or cholecalciferol. This D vitamin is created when the ultraviolet in the sunlight reacts with a type of cholesterol that is found under the skin naturally. The D3 is converted into a more active form of the d vitamin in the liver and is then diverted to where it is needed the most. Some of the D vitamin remains in the liver and kidneys to help reabsorb the calcium from the blood. The rest of the D vitamin is dispersed to the bones to help them retain their calcium and the intestines to aid absorption of calcium from food.

Even though the majority of the D vitamin is formed through the exposure of the skin to sunlight there are some foods that do contain some of the vitamin naturally. This form of the D vitamin is known as vitamin D2, or ergocalciferol. This is used in the same way as the other D vitamins and is the type used to create the majority of D vitamin supplements.

A Guide to the C Vitamin

The c vitamin has got to be the most widely known vitamin these days. It is not surprising because the body needs c vitamin for over 300 functions. In fact, the c vitamin has been proved to help protect against heart disease, cancer and other serious illnesses. Without the c vitamin the body would not be able to heal itself either. This is because the c vitamin is vital for the formation of collagen. Whenever a person has a cut or an injury it is the collagen that helps repair the damage and without sufficient c vitamin this would be almost impossible. Collagen has a multitude of functions in the body, including keeping the organs in place, and it would not be able to do this without sufficient c vitamin.

The c vitamin is also an antioxidant for the body and helps other vitamins and minerals to be absorbed better. Folic acid and iron, for example, need the c vitamin to maximise their usefulness. The more c vitamin that the body has, the better its defence against colds and other common ailments and the c vitamin may not prevent a person catching a virus but it does help speed up the recovery process.

There is c vitamin in almost every fruit and vegetable but some have far higher c vitamin content than others. Cranberries and melons have high c vitamin content. In fact, tropical fruits have the highest c vitamin amounts of all fruit. Hot peppers are amongst the richest sources of the c vitamin when it comes to vegetables. The hotter the pepper, the higher its c vitamin content is. Unfortunately, the c vitamin is water soluble so many vegetables lose their effectiveness as a c vitamin provider if they are boiled for a long time. Steaming or quick stir frying vegetables ensures that more of their c vitamin content is retained. The recommended daily amount of the c vitamin is easily obtained from eating five portions of fruit and vegetables a day if they are consumed raw or cooked quickly.

C vitamin supplements are extremely useful to ensure that people obtain sufficient c vitamin. However, with a balanced diet the amount of c vitamin the body receives is likely to be sufficient. However, if a person begins feeling tired or lethargic then a c vitamin supplement will help overcome this. There is no danger of having too much c vitamin as the body simply excretes the excess.

The Different Types of B Vitamins

There are a large number of B vitamins that are needed to keep all of the body functions performing properly. All of the B vitamins are essential for a number of different processes. Without sufficient B vitamins the blood supply would not be healthy and this leads to a variety of illnesses and diseases. The brain needs B vitamins to function correctly and the heart also needs B vitamins to stay healthy and prevent heart disease and food is broken down into the various nutrients by B vitamins. In fact, just about every organ and process within the body requires at least one form of the B vitamin.

Thiamin, or B1, is the B vitamin that the body needs to keep all of its cells, especially the nerves, functioning correctly. It is especially important for memory and general mental health and is one of the B vitamins that is required to convert food into energy.

Riboflavin, or B2, is the B vitamin that is essential for releasing the enrgy from food that has been consumed. Without this B vitamin the body cannot grow or develop properly as red blood cells will not be as healthy as they should be.

Niacin, or B3, is the B vitamin that is involved in over fifty processes, ranging from detoxifying chemicals to making hormones and releasing energy from food.

Pantothenic acid, or B5,works with several other B vitamins for a number of essential processes including breaking down fats, proteins, and carbohydrates into energy and is also the B vitamin that is needed to form vitamin D, a variety of hormones, and red blood cells.

Pyridoxine, or B6, is the B vitamin that is largely responsible for redistributing the amino acids to create over five thousand proteins that are needed by the body and is also one of the B vitamins needed to form various enzymes.

Biotin, or B7, is one of the B vitamins that are involved in a number of processes within the body, including the breaking down of fats, carbohydrates and proteins into useable energy forms.

Folic acid, or B9, is the essential B vitamin for aiding in cell growth and division, especially during pregnancy. This B vitamin is also necessary to make natural chemicals which control the appetite, moods and quality of sleep. It is also the best B vitamin for helping lower the chances of suffering a heart attack or stroke by keeping the arteries open.

Cobalamin, or B12, is one of the B vitamins that is important in the process of converting the carbohydrates, proteins, and fats into energy. This B vitamin is also vital in forming the protective covering of nerve cells and to keep red blood cells healthy, and help prevent heart disease.

The K Vitamin

The K vitamin is essential for the blood to clot to repair injuries. Whenever a person has a bleeding wound, it is the K vitamin that is present in the blood that stops the bleeding and enables most minor cuts to heal quickly.

There are three different forms of the K vitamin. The first variant of the K vitamin is vitamin K1, also known as phylloquinone. This is the form of the K vitamin that is found in types of plant foods. Vitamin K found in plant foods. The second form of the K vitamin is the vitamin K2, or menaquinone. This type of the K vitamin is formed by friendly bacteria in the intestines. Thirdly, there is vitamin K3 which is also known as menadione and is actually an artificial form of the K vitamin. All three of these types of K vitamin end up in the liver where it is used to create the blood clotting substances.

The best natural sources of the K vitamin are green leafy vegetables, such as spinach. However, because the friendly bacteria in the intestine makes one of the forms of the K vitamin it is extremely rare for a person to have a deficiency of the K vitamin and so K vitamin supplements are not needed by the majority of people.

Apart from the main function of helping blood to clot, the K vitamin, specifically the Vitamin K1, has an important part to play in the bone building process. This K vitamin is required to retain the calcium in the bones and redistribute it to where it is needed.

Although a K vitamin deficiency is relatively rare there are certain groups of people who may suffer from it. Newborn babies may not have enough of the K vitamin as they have insufficient bacteria in their intestines to produce it. The majority of newborn babies in developed countries are therefore given a K vitamin injection to tide them over until the natural process takes over. That is the only time that a K vitamin supplement will be taken by most people throughout their lives. However, an extended course of antibiotics may lead to a K vitamin deficiency due to the fact that the antibiotics kill the intestinal bacteria as well as the ones that they are being taken to cure. Again, a K vitamin supplement may be given if the course of antibiotics has to continue for a long period of time.

All About Vitamin A

Vitamin A was given the first letter of the alphabet for a name because it was the first vitamin to be discovered. It was found that vitamin A has a large number of uses in the body including keeping eyes healthy, aiding cell growth and also helping boost the immune system. However, vitamin A is not only absorbed directly but it is also created by the body by converting beta carotene into vitamin A.

Vitamin A itself is found in a number of foods such as eggs, milk, liver and meat. Beta carotene that the body can convert into vitamin A is found in many fruits and vegetables, especially the red, orange and green coloured ones. The most important point to remember that consuming too much pure vitamin A can be toxic. It is essential not to exceed the recommended daily allowance for vitamin A. The actual recommended allowance of vitamin A varies depending on a person’s age, sex and other factors. While the actual amount of vitamin A consumed may be toxic if the recommended daily allowance is exceeded, there is a far higher limit to how much beta carotene can be consumed. Therefore it is advisable to concentrate on obtaining the greatest amount of beta carotene which the body can then convert to vitamin A, rather than consuming vast quantities of pure vitamin A rich foods.

Many people will remember being told that eating lots of carrots helps you to see in the dark and that is down to the vitamin A that is produced from the high levels of beta carotene that are found in the vegetables. Other foods which have high levels of beta carotene that can be converted to vitamin A include tomatoes and dark green leafy vegetables, such as spinach. Beta carotene is not only used to form vitamin A, but it is also a powerful antioxidant in itself. None of the beta carotene that is absorbed is wasted as any excess after conversion to vitamin A has taken place is used to fight the harmful free radicals within the body. Vitamin A also helps fight infections and illnesses by helping tissues that line various parts of the body, including the eyes, mouth, nose, throat and lungs, to grow and also to repair them if they are damaged to prevent infection. Children also need plenty of vitamin A to help their bones and teeth to develop properly.
